30 years of commitment to science education
This tuesday, May 13th, 2025, the Fondation La main à la pâte and the Academy of Sciences celebrated together three decades of commitment to a living, rigorous and accessible science and technology education. An exceptional day, placed under thee sign of transmission, emotion and projection towards the future.
30 years of commitment in the service of the school. Three decades of a strong ambition: to make science exciting in classrooms, carried out by teachers, students, researchers, trainers, and many partners.
From 2pm, the Coupole of th Institut de France was animated by the presentations of 6 scientific projects led by students from all over France. From biodiversity to astronomy and digital technology, these works have demonstrated the commitment of an entire educational community to bringing science to lige in the classroom.
The students exchanged with Alain Aspect, Nobel Prize in Physics, and Claudie Haigneraie, astronaut, godparents of the anniversary. An inspiring message from ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot praised their approach and encouraged science as a fascinating field of investigation.
An interactive scientific show, "Noises and sounds", led by Jean-Michel Courty and Edouard Kierlik, closeed this first part on a joyful and enlightening note.
In the evening, the Foundation revisited key moments of its history, thanks to a series of testimonies from actors on the ground: teachers, trainers, researchers, engineers, former students. All illustrated the richness and diversity of actions carried out since 1995, in France as well as internationally.
The celebration was also an opportunity for a renewed commitment to the future. Etienne Klein and Laure Saint-Raymond, godparents of the 30 years old, shared their refleciton on "Children and science for tomorrow's world". Then, Didier Roux, president of the Foundation, presentd the main directions to come: strenghten the impact of La main à la pâte to support more and more teachers and students, in Metropolitan Fran and overseas.
The day ended with two symbolic interventions: that of the Prime Minister François Bayrou and of the Minister of National Education, Elisabeth Borne. Both recalled the importance of its commitment for the French school. Also present seree Xavier Darcos, Claudie Haigneré and Sylvie Retailleau, former ministers of National Education, or higher education, as well as representatives of national education, including the rectors form Ile-de-France.
Thank you to all those who write, every day, the story of La main à la pâtee and work for a science that forms informed, curious and committed citizens.
